THE BEST HOLIDAY EVER

My most memorable vacation was when, after an internship in Frutillar, we decided with my classmates backpacking through southern Chile in the summer of 2015. We were a total of 8 people, so we felt quite safe to travel. Usually when we hitchhike, we split into groups of 4.

Our first destination was Puerto Varas. I remember that we visited a really nice house museum and we also walked the streets that were around Llanquihue Lake, so the view was very beautiful. In that city we also joined two more backpackers with whom we went to Puerto Montt and camped on the beach.

Then we were lucky that a driver took us to Honropirén, including the barge. We were there for three days. I think it is one of the most beautiful places I have been. We were camping near a river and we fished with the help of a young local.

Then we pass through Caleta Gonzalo and Chaitén. In Chaitén, some soldiers picked us up in a truck that apparently was transporting oil, because the guys who were in the back were all dirty with a sticky black substance. The soldiers left us on a beach so we camped there and the next day a driver took us and dropped us off near a bridge so we camped there. So if we camped under a bridge hahaha which was beautiful, because there was a big lake.

The next day, a driver took us to Puyuhuapi. As we split up to hitchhike, unfortunately we got there before the other group and they had a tent, so we had to stay in a cabin. I remember that some backpackers left us a bag of bread next to our sleeping bags and it was a very nice gesture, considering that we had little food, because we also divided it with the other group.

After a few days we went to Mañihuales and there my aunt received us. There we also meet up with the other group. We were finally able to use a shower after several days and eat sitting around a table.

Then we went to Aysén and Coyhaique, we also met other of my aunts, who very kindly received my companions as well. We took the opportunity to tour the city. Then I had to return to Santiago to volunteer and two of my backpacker friends came back with me. I remember that when we arrived in Puerto Montt it was Friday and the volunteering began on Saturday so we decided to travel all night to get to Santiago and after a great adventure, we succeeded.

Well, this is my favorite vacation because a lot of random situations happened while backpacking and I really like not having to schedule everything or worry about money, so I was able to better enjoy the moments and the people.
